3 Scissor Lift Floor Protection Options

04/23/2021

Contractors have many factors to consider when deciding which scissor lift best fits the application at hand. One such concern is how devastating a hydraulic leak could be if there was no way to contain it or, better yet, prevent it from happening in the first place. Keep reading to determine which scissor lift floor protection option is right for your project.

1. Lift Diapers

Traditionally, scissor lift diapers are the most commonly used protective measure against hydraulic fluid leaks because they’re initially cost-friendly. While they certainly serve their purpose, strapping a pad underneath machinery comes with inherent risks. Heavy leakage can cause diaper pads to overflow and changing nearly full pads can be difficult, both resulting in spilled oil and stained flooring. Add the cost of rework to the project and coming in under- or on-budget may be a thing of the past.

2. All-Electric Lifts

Currently, there are a number of all-electric lifts on the aerial work platform market. Despite being almost twice the cost of a traditional scissor lift, these hydraulic fluid-free work platforms allow operators to work at height while eliminating the potential for leaks. Not only does this guarantee delicate flooring protection, but all-electric lifts are also environmentally friendly, if they’re in the budget.

3. LeakGuard™ Fluid Containment System

Most traditional scissor lift leaks come from the hydraulic motors on the front wheels as a result of hose stress from steering and drive functions. The entire Hy-Brid Lifts Pro Series line of mobile elevating work platforms utilizes direct electric drive and steer, eliminating the drive wheels as a source of oil leaks. Hy-Brid Lifts took scissor lift oil containment one step further with the LeakGuard™ Fluid Containment System. This affordable solution uses one tray, located under the single hydraulic pump, to contain 110% of leaks and deliver a better, more cost-effective solution than lift diapers or other manufacturers’ multiple trays and pads.

All in all, the clear choice when deciding on the right scissor lift for the job is one that’s budget-friendly, has the least amount of potential hydraulic oil leak points, and, if possible, total leak containment should a failure occur in the system.
